Famous Deserts

When ever the word deserts come in our mind, we think of completely desolate sandy areas with nothing but sand dunes all around and literally no plant or animal life.
Deserts are not always sandy, they are usually that areas of this world, with little or no rainfall, and there is hardly any water on or under the land to support life.
But nature is such diverse that even in such harsh conditions, a variety of plants, insects and animals live in deserts. Most of the deserts are now being slowly urbanized to accommodate the ever increasing human population.
The biggest example is the Arabian Desert which is now has highly modernized cities all around it, with water being desalinated from the seas and used by the masses.
Deserts can not just be hot, they have climates that can reach either extremes. Deserts near the equator are extremely hot in day time and very cold at nights. Where as deserts like Gobi Desert are extremely cold.
