Man from his early days has strived to learn and adapt to his surrounding. Through out his evolutionary period man has tried to mend different materials according to his needs.
With time as he has acquired more and more knowledge he has started to mend these material on big scale constructing huge structures that stand against the test of time.
Bridges are one of these mega structures that are true engineering marvels of modern times. The making of these bridges involves great complexity yet their perfection tells us that how well engineers can cope with circumstances to make things possible.
Bridges are of many types one of which is Suspension Bridge which are simply huge slabs of concrete hung on metallic strings. Suspension bridges unlike other bridges are very light weight and flexible to forces of nature.
Yet they require careful designing as a slight mistake can lead to serious disasters like the famous Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster in 1940.
Suspension bridges also have the advantage that they can span huge distances which other wise is very difficult with other types of bridges allowing for new possibilities which can be seen in many modern record setting constructions.
There are many Suspension Bridges around the world of which some the famous ones are:
1. Great Belt Bridge
2. The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge
3. Humber Bridge
4. Mackinac Bridge
5. The Golden Gate Bridge
