Dubai is the city that has really amazed the world during the past decade and it is continuously amazing us all by its land mark achievements. The city also called as the 'City of Gold' is the center of trade and tourism. Although it is a state of the oil rich United Arab Emirates, yet it alone generates enough revenue all through its tourism industry and it is continuously developing in this department.
The Dubai Shopping Festival is one of the greatest tourist attractions in Dubai. It started in the year 1996 and since then has attracted million of tourists from around the world. This festival is a month long event in which many brands take part. The festival includes shopping discounts on various malls in Dubai, entertainment events, daily car and gold raffles and the the most breath taking attraction, the daily fireworks. All this continues the whole month.
A part from all this, one major attraction of this festival is the 'Global Village'. The global village started along side with the festival and it is the primary place were people visit during the whole festival. This village started with a concept of gathering all the world's heritage and merchandise in one place.
Many different countries can participate in this event and setup the own country pavilions. Each pavilion is uniquely designed to represent the heritage of the respective country. Inside the pavilions one will find all the merchandise and food items related to the country.
At the end of the festival, there is also an award given to the country with the best pavilion. The global village earlier was only part of the festival and was erected only on a temporary basis, but later it was given a permanent place along side Emirates Road, where year long exhibitions are held. Only during the festivals all the activities really pick up the pace attracting many visitors.
The global village 2008 is also at its full swing. One of the major attraction this time is the 500m Canal in the Egyptian Pavilion. So do try out the boat ride on the canal.
