K2 (Godwin Austen)

December 5th 2008 10:38

K2 also called as Godwin Austen is situated on the Karakoram Range which is a part of the Himalayan range. The mountain is located to the North of Pakistan. It stands tall at a height of 8,611 meters above sea level and is a proud member of the 8000 meters club.

Majority of the world's highest mountains are situated in Himalayan Ranges which shows the might of this area and the overwhelming presence of the mountain peaks around the region really makes us feel to get to the top and see the world as if one is looking at the world from the sky.

The K2 is well known for its savagery and for that reason it is also called as " Savage Mountains" . The reason behind its name is the difficulty in climbing it is considered one of the most difficult summits on Earth and it is said that out of every four person that try to climb it, one dies.

Despite of this difficulty, it has been conquered many times and the first to do it was an Italian expedition.
