The Lost City Of Atlantis

December 18th 2008 18:22

There are some places in this world that don't even exist yet their existence is believed by many. By these existences I mean that there has been accounts of strange places in history that once existed but today there is no proof to support these ancient of accounts.

Although it is not even clear whether references to these account are even true in the first place yet scientists still try to find evidence related to these mentioned places. One such place is the 'Lost City of Atlantis'. There has been so many accounts of its existence in history and so many historians and scientists have tried to suggest possible location of this lost world yet no success has been so far achieved in trying to find this lost place.

It is believed that 'The lost city of Atlantis' drowned into the sea as result of a punishment incurred on the inhabitants of this city due to their misconduct. There has been many mentions of Atlantis as a city with lots of riches and prosperity. All of these references actually refer back to the original and the most authentic reference mentioned by 'Plato' in his famous dialogues, 'Timaeus and Critias' . This is the best that is known about Atlantis, from history. Even in this dialogue their is no mention of the location of Atlantis which has made it a mystery waiting to be solved.

There has been many proposed sites of this lost culture and the most recently popular one was 'The Bahamas'.

Actually, Plato was fairly specific about the locale of Atlantis: beyond Gibralter and facing the region of Gades (Cadiz). The lost land was simply a supervolcanic island off the coast of Portugal that exploded and sank in the 17th century BC. Plato's date is obviously off, simply because the Egyptian priests (his source) habitually exaggerated historical time (see Roots of Cataclysm, Algora Publ. Ny 2009).
