The Tower Of London

April 16th 2009 15:31

This world is full of sites each having its own beautiful looks and attractions. Some of the places are natural and carved by the nature. While there are many which have been made to perfection all by man himself. Of all these beautiful man made structures and cities, the Tower of London holds its own significance.

The Tower of London is uniquely important to the people, not just because of its beauty but also because of its historic value. The Tower Of London is situated some where in the heart of the city of London. It stands near the north bank of the River Thames. It is with in the well known London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

The Tower of London usually known as the White Tower, is often thought to be the London Tower. However the London tower is a whole complex of a number of structures, which was built by William in 1078.

The structure is built in a traditional manner like most of the buildings which were built by English people. It contains a number of walls for defensive purpose. The whole building is also composed of several towers each having their unique names. The central white colored tower has an important historical significance.

Like I mentioned earlier many people consider the White Tower as being the London Tower, however the whole structure is the London Tower and the White Tower is just a part of it.

The London Tower was a fortress and also a place for all the members of the Royal family. It contained a prison where many prisoners where tortured or executed. It also contained some other places run by the government, like the mint, records office etc.
